Monos Luggage was founded by two friends: Bill Egnor and Stefano Faggioli. One day they were discussing how so many shops are focused on new designs while forgetting the value of quality and Italian craftsmanship.

They started their company in December 2012, and they only produce products that are made in Italy. They are an all-Italian company, but do not make all of the products themselves. The materials come from different countries, but production is made largely in Italy. Bill Egnor has been quoted saying that "I think it's important that producers have a strong connection with their customers. I think it's important for the customer to know who he's buying from."

Monos uses sustainable, cruelty-free materials if possible. Most of their materials are made from Calfskin, Canvas, and Nylon. These are all materials that do not come from animals. They do, however, use animal-friendly leathers and textiles as a means of creating designs. They also make use of sustainable resources where possible - for instance, this has been seen in their 100% cotton luggage bags which uses cotton waste to create the thread used for sewing up the bag. They also made a backpack that was created from recycled plastic bottles.
